一，where是什么
通常我们将where用作副词、连词、名词、代词等，一般情况下我们可以将其翻译为哪里、地方等意思。例句有：

二，where的用法
当Where作为引导状语从句的时候，Where在其之前是不会表示地点的先行词的，在这个时候Where是从属连词，意思就是Where引导的从句修饰主句的谓语动词。
.例句有：
The famous scientist grew up where he was born and in 1930 he came to Shanghai.
句中“the famous scientist grew up "这一部分是该句的主要句子，Where到句子最后的意思就是地点状语从句，而where前并没有表示它的地点的先行词.
She found her passport where she lost it .
"passport"是主句 found 后面的宾语，这个并不是这句从句中lost的地点表示，因此 where 引导的就是指地点状语从句，从属连词where引导的从句修饰主句的谓语动词 found 。
三，where的名词性从句
where引导的名词性从句，它的意思就很接近the place where ,可译为：“某某的地方”,where也是疑问副词。例句如：
This is where Luxun once lived. (where 引导表语从句)
I don't know where Luxun once lived .(where 引导宾语从句)
She was free to go to where she liked and do what she liked . (where 引导宾语从句)
We haven't yet settled the question where we are going to spend our summer vacation. (where引导同位语从句)
